'Do we need a wedding guest book?'
This question flicks through the mind of every couple, especially as it gets closer to the big day and all of the budget has already been committed (and more!) Why would you choose to spend, yet again, on a non-essential like a wedding guest book?
Well, here's the thing, it sort of is essential. It is a crucial tool when it comes to prolonging the day. All the other items you choose to buy will be gone, or at best put away to maybe look at again 10 years down the line. The flowers, the meal, the champagne, the favours, the wedding dress, the bridesmaids' outfits, the shoes, the venue... I don't want to be depressing but the vast majority of what you spend your money on you'll literally never see again! But the guest book - and of course the photo album - will live on! You can keep them in your home, ready to re-read, flick through whenever you like. I have my weddding guest book from our wedding years ago and it makes me chuckle reading through all the messages. Quite a lot is just drunken friends giving very heartfelt advice, but every now and again there is a poignant nugget that really stops me in my tracks. There are also messages from family members who have since passed on and they are just worth their weight in gold.
One bit of advice - get your bossy friend/auntie to take on the official role of passing the guest book around the tables to make sure that everyone signs it. They will feel wonderfully important and you will have a book full of love!
