Every BeGolden book is handmade at our bookbindery in Wiltshire using traditional bookbinding techniques, before being printed in our workshop in rural Oxfordshire. The pages are bound with head bands, tail bands and endpapers - the same methods used by bookbinders for centuries. We do not outsource production or use automated manufacturing. Each book is made to order by hand before being tissue-wrapped and dispatched from our studio.

We print every cover by hand using hot foil presses - specifically old Marshall print presses - with either metal printing plates or tiny brass letterpress type. Hot foil printing presses heated metallic foil onto the cover material under pressure, creating an impression you can both see and feel with your fingertips. We deliberately avoid digital printing because hot foil gives a precision and permanence that digital cannot match.

Hot foil printing is a traditional craft technique in which a heated die presses metallic foil onto a surface, leaving a crisp, tactile impression. It produces lettering that is sharper, more durable, and more visually striking than inkjet or laser printing. It also feels different - you can run your finger over a BeGolden cover and feel the depth of every letter. It's one of the reasons our books are described by customers as heirloom-quality rather than just decorative.

We use three cover materials. Recycled leather is our most popular - it has the traditional feel of a classic photo album but with a contemporary edge, thanks to the recycled material and modern font choices. Linen bookcloth is natural, soft, and highly tactile, with muted colours that give a timeless, elegant result. Jewel bookcloth is our most premium range and is slightly iridescent, with an exceptional depth of colour. Each material is available in a range of colours and paired with a selection of fonts to suit different occasions and tastes.

Yes - and that's very much the intention. Traditional bookbinding techniques, quality cover materials, and hot foil printing all contribute to books that are built to last decades rather than years. Several of our customers have told us their BeGolden albums have become repositories for family photographs going back generations. The books are designed to be passed down and shared, not put in a drawer.

All our books are made in the UK, at our bookbindery in Wiltshire and our workshop in rural Oxfordshire. We are a family business and all production - binding, printing, wrapping and dispatch - happens in-house. We have been making books here since BeGolden was founded by Bobby Adams in 2008.

Our recycled leather range uses leather that would otherwise go to waste, making it a more sustainable choice than virgin leather. Our linen bookcloth is a natural material. We are a small, independently owned business and take care over the materials we source, though we don't currently hold formal sustainability certifications. We get asked this all the time - so often , in fact, that we created a whole page to make it easier to see how many photos will fit in each of our albums. Just head for our Size Guide page for all the info you need. In addition, each product page includes page measurements and photos to help you decide.

We use double-sided mounting tape as the easiest and cleanest solution. You simply place a piece of tape onto the back of the photo, peel the top layer off, and then press down on to the page to secure the photo in place. One roll of our mounting tape will stick in at least 150 photos.

You can also use photo corners, glue dots, pritt stick, wash tape, magic tape etc.  If you'd like to add mounting tape to your basket, you can do so as you place your order.

All our albums and photo guest books have 480gsm photoboard - this is super thick, acid-free card that you can write on with a ball point pen, fountain pen, felt pen, roller ball. People do also use sharpies but the thick black nib can show through a bit on the other side. 

Our smallest guest book has 100gsm pages and can take all biros, roller balls and fine liner pens.

As a guide, designs with printing in the bottom right-hand corner, can usually made and dispatched in 24 hours.

Books with printing in the middle of the cover involve a different process & may take 5-7 days to create and dispatch.

All our UK orders are sent out via Royal Mail 2-3 days tracked business post unless you’ve opted for express delivery, in which case it takes 1-2 days. 

US orders are dispatched via Royal Mail's Tracked International service which takes approximately 7-10 days.

Yes. We fulfil corporate orders regularly, including branded guest books, presentation albums, and bulk personalised gifts. We can work with your fonts, colours, and logos. Email hello@begolden.co.uk to discuss your requirements and we'll come back to you promptly.

We'd suggest ordering at least two to three weeks before you need the book, just to allow comfortable time for production and delivery. That said, we do offer last-minute and rush options - check our Last-Minute collection or contact us directly and we'll tell you honestly what's achievable.

The best bet is to go to our Last Minute collection as all these books can be printed quickly and dispatched straight away. By opting for Express Delivery at the checkout, there's a high chance you’ll receive your book within the UK in just 1-2 days. Alternatively, contact us to enquire about Special Delivery which is even faster.

If your item hasn’t been personalised then yes, most certainly! However, if it has been printed with your details then we can’t accept it back as personalised items have absolutely no resale value. Really sorry!
